Phnom Penh to build new tourist sidewalk along the riverside

Phnom Penh Municipality plans to build a new tourist sidewalk along the riverside from the area in front of Cambodia Post to the Royal Palace, to solve the congestion caused by several construction projects nearby, as well as to boost the city’s tourism.

According to a report from the municipality, the whole project also includes gardens, night markets, bars, local vendors, souvenir shops, agricultural products, parking lots, as well as a boat dock.

Sam Piseth, Director of the Department of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, said that this project is to ensure the harmonisation between tourism and urban infrastructure.

An objective of building this new walkway is also to boost sustainable tourism. Three days a week, from Friday to Sunday from 4pm to 12am, the area will be closed for pedestrians only, and no vehicles will be permitted access.

H. E Phnom Penh Municipal Governor H.E Khuong Sreng, advised his team to study the feasibly including the proper timing, traffic, and parking system, in order to ensure that the project runs smoothly without disturbing local residents.
