PM: Cambodia’s Construction Human Resources Must Strengthen Their Capacity

Cambodia does not have enough human resources to work in the booming construction industry, said Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen on 25 March 2019 during a graduation ceremony at the Phnom Penh International University (PPIU).

“We have to strengthen our human resource capacity. Even though we have a lot of human resources in the education sector, nowadays, we still do not have enough human resources in the main sectors such as engineering, construction, and technology,” he said.

“For construction of big roads and bridges, we cannot use our engineers because their capacity is still limited. So, that’s why nowadays we often need human resources from outside, but if we have enough human resources inside, we can then reduce the demand for human resources from abroad”, he added.

Meanwhile, 35,000 qualified engineering professionals are needed in Cambodia from 2018 to 2020 to fulfill the high demand of the current labour market, according to the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) report. (Read more)
