The Royal Government of Cambodia on Monday inaugurated a 93km section of NR7 in Kratie province.

The inauguration ceremony was presided over by PM Samdech Hun Sen and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wentian.

This 93km section starts from the roundabout in downtown Kratie and ends at Romeat village, O’Kreang commune in Sambo district. The road is 11m wide with two lanes and was built with a Chinese fund of US$33 million.

The road section was rebuilt with AC based on a re-study on the increase in traffic volume combined with the national economic growth activities, trade, investment and tourism.

The project began construction in November 2016 and was completed in December 2018. The project was built by Shanghai Construction Company (SCG) and inspected by Guangzhou Wanan Construction Supervision Co., Ltd.

According to Minister Sun Chanthol, NR7 is a potential road connecting Phnom Penh through major provinces such as Kampong Cham, Tbong Khmum, Kratie, Stung Treng and towards the fourth economic pole of Cambodia.

The road is part of the ASEAN Highway 11 (AH11) or Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Central Corridor, which connects Kunming city in southern China through Vientiane, Laos crossing Phnom Penh and towards the port of Sihanoukville.
