PM: Khmer Becoming Smarter in Construction

Speaking at the Grand Opening ceremony of the USD100 million Vattanac Capital on the weekend, Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen said that Cambodia now is getting smarter in construction, which shows that Cambodia is positively moving forward.

“In the past, on one hectare of land, we can build only about 2,000 to 5,000 square metres of the structure. But now with less than one hectare of land, we can build the structure of more than 130,000 square metres. Vattanac Capital Tower is an obvious example,” said PM Samdech Hun Sen.

“This is the evidence showing that the Cambodia construction industry is positively moving forward. Khmer have learned how to use land smarter now. We also have adopted the concept of a vertical city by creating more construction areas up high to the sky with less amount of land being used, which is essential as Phnom Penh city gets busier and busier. I personally call this in-depth development,” he added.

Phnom Penh city continues to expand from about 300 square kilometres in the 1970s to more than 600 square kilometres today. As the city gets busier, being smart when constructing infrastructure and buildings is essential.

“I am really glad that Khmer can do this, and we are on the right track. Not only Vattanac Group, but I also want to urge all the investors to invest more in this industry to help boost Cambodia to be a better place to live,” the prime minister stressed.

“In future, I also hope Cambodia will become a luxurious shopping hub. Tourists used to fly to Hong Kong or Singapore to buy the luxurious brand name products. I want them to come to Cambodia as well. Vattanac Capital Tower is a good start, and I expect more and more,” PM Samdech Hun Sen concluded.
