PP-Bavet Railway & Three Major Projects Included in Transport Masterplan

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) has requested its working committee to include the Phnom Penh-Ho Chi Minh railway project and three other major infrastructure projects into the national transport and logistics masterplan, to accelerate progress on the projects.

This is according to HE Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transport, at a meeting of the National Committee for Logistics on 25 June.

HE Sun Chanthol proposed that the working group consider put four projects in the draft master plan including the Phnom Penh-Ho Chi Minh railway, the Battambang-Siem Reap road construction, the NR57 road construction, and the NR50C road construction project.

The minister also urged the working group to review, prepare, and include a five-year rolling road construction plan in the draft master plan.

According to the meeting, at this stage the committee is still collecting more input for the draft masterplan before submitting it to the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the National Council for Logistics’ final approval.

The draft masterplan has been prepared by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) since September 2018.
