Private firm mulls building an agro-industrial special economic zone in Kampong Speu

Khmer Holding Group is planning to build an agro-industrial special economic zone in Kampong Spue to serve as an agricultural products processing factory, storage, and assembling facility.

During a meeting with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) on 20 January, the firm representative said that the beside this SEZ, his firm is also planning to invest in two other projects.

Those include creating a medicinal plants farm and establishing a research institute for medicinal plants, agricultural crops and organic fertilizer production.

He added the company have been conducting research in many target provinces such as Mondulkiri Province, Oddar Meanchey, Steung Treng and Koh Kong. However, the firm has yet to decide on which one.

This representative has yet to revealed investment value or the project detail, only citing that the firm is preparing the document for the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC).

In response, the Minister of agriculture fully supported SEZ project in Kampong Speu and recommended that the research institute should built at the Royal University of Agriculture or on the ministry land in Steung Treng province.
