Properties Affecting NR5 Renovation Project Ordered to be Demolished Immediately

Battambang Governor HE Nguon Rattanak has called for the immediate demolition of any properties affecting the NR5 renovation project, directed towards both legal properties that have already received compensation and illegal ones.

Governor Rattanak said that during a site inspection on 10 May, citing the faster the demolition procedure goes, the faster the renovation could take place.

The renovation of NR5 has a total length of 366km connecting the capital to the northwest part of the country passing through Kompong Chhnang, Pursat, Battambang, and Banteay Meanchey provinces.

The road will be upgraded to Asphalt Concrete (AC) and expanded to four lanes with a width of 23m. The project is being undertaken with a loan of US$500 million from the Japanese government.

The construction of this road is divided into 3 sections including the Battambang-Serey Sophoan section (84 km), the Thla Ma Om-Battambang section (146 km), and the Prek Kdam-Thla Ma Om section (135 km).

Despite lockdown and the COVID-19 community outbreak, the project still continues smoothly as planned. Battambang authorities did not reveal current progress figures, but according to the latest information from the Ministry of Public and Transport in February, the entire project is over 50% complete.
