Cambodia Approves Over USD 5 Billion in Investments Across 346 Projects in 10 Months of 2024

Cambodia’s investment landscape saw remarkable growth during the first ten months of 2024, with the Council for the Development of Cambodia approving 346 new projects worth over USD 5 billion, projected to generate approximately 270,000 jobs.

This represents a 38% increase in investment compared to the same period in 2023, underscoring the country’s strengthened economic environment, according to HE Chea Vuthy, Secretary General of the Cambodian Investment Committee, on 16 November 2024.

In October alone, 30 new projects, including one expansion, were approved with a combined investment of USD 226 million, expected to create 16,000 jobs. Of these, 21 projects are located outside Special Economic Zones (SEZs), while 10 are situated within SEZs, demonstrating a balanced distribution of development across regions.

Key sectors driving this growth include infrastructure, garment and footwear production, home appliances, camping gear, and furniture. Chinese investment accounted for the largest share, representing 53.39% of total approved investments, followed by domestic investment at 29.47%.

As Cambodia focuses on sustainable growth, these developments reflect its growing appeal as an investment destination. The ongoing diversification of investment sectors and the increasing contribution of SEZs highlight Cambodia’s readiness to attract international and local investors, with opportunities for further expansion and job creation in the months ahead.
