Construction on Road 146 commences in Sihanoukville

Construction on Road 146 started on 17 April 2020 under the technical supervision by H.E Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transport (MPWT). The construction project is being implemented by China Road & Bridge Corporation Co.Ltd (CRBC) spending US$S76 million of a US$100 million national budget and is projected to take about 28 months to complete, according to MPWT’s Facebook page.

“This road section is a potential bypass for the export and import of goods from ships, and for transporting agricultural and fishery products for our fellow citizens in Steung Hav district as well as in Tumnob Rolok Chas in Sihanoukville. Through this new road, their goods will go into the market easily and less costly.”

“…The road will also contribute greatly to reducing traffic congestion on National Road 4 which is mainly caused by heavy freight vehicles such as containers,” the minister added.

To ensure quality and longevity and its resilience capacity for heavy freight vehicles, this road is being built to a technical specification of 9cm of AC concrete for 20.678km and is built with 26cm of steel wire mesh concrete for the other 22.347km.

Road 146, or Samdech Tep Vong Patriarch Safety road as it is also known, has a total length of 43.025km and is being built from the intersection of National Road 4 at kilometre 178+165 in Veal Thom village, Veal Renh commune, Prey Nob district to Steung Hav roundabout in 1 village, Ou Treh commune, Steung Hav district and to Sihanoukville Port in Sihanoukville province.
