Royal Group & TotalEnergies Join Forces for Cambodia’s Renewable Energy & GHG Reduction Initiatives

In a momentous stride towards sustainable energy and environmental stewardship, Royal Group Power Co Ltd (RGP) and TotalEnergies, a prominent French energy conglomerate based in Singapore, have forged a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on renewable energy ventures in Cambodia. This collaboration extends to Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reduction initiatives, ushering in a new era of ecological consciousness and innovation.

The signing ceremony, which unfolded on 25 October 2023 in Singapore, was graced by the presence of Okhna Kith Meng, President of Royal Group, and Mr Ting Wee Liang, President of Singapore and Manager of Marketing and Services for Asia Pacific and the Middle East at TotalEnergies.

This strategic partnership between two industry titans serves as a paragon for the private sector’s commitment to renewable energy and climate resilience, aligning seamlessly with Cambodia’s governmental aspirations for sustainable development and global progress.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr Ting Wee Liang conveyed, “As a global multinational energy company, we are unwavering in our mission to develop profitable renewable projects worldwide, Cambodia included. We are steadfast in our dedication to supporting the nation’s energy transformation. Since 1993, we have been serving the Cambodian populace through our extensive network of service stations, supplying energy, lubricants, and aviation fuels. In 2021, we commenced operations on a significant front, with 74MWp solar projects in Battambang province.”

Okhna Kith Meng, President of Royal Group, added his perspective, saying, “Today, I am elated to learn of our collaborative efforts on sustainable energy projects with TotalEnergies. We stand ready as stalwart allies, pooling our collective knowledge, skills, and capabilities. This synergy is poised to expedite research and development endeavors, ushering in top-tier renewable projects in Cambodia. Together, we’re advancing the nation’s energy transformation and environmental aspirations. I anticipate resounding success in our shared endeavors.”

It’s worth noting that this partnership marks the second significant renewable energy agreement for Royal Group Power (RGP) in Cambodia. In November 2022, RGP, a subsidiary of Royal Group, solidified an exclusive partnership with Keppel Energy (KE) from Singapore, bolstering the drive for renewable energy initiatives within the country.

As Cambodia strides forward into a greener future, such partnerships signify the private sector’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development, clean energy, and the preservation of our planet’s ecological balance.
