Samdech Techo Donates Land to Build Dormitories for Poor Female Students

In a significant move to support education and empower women, Samdech Techo Hun Sen announced a generous donation of 2 hectares of land valued at over USD 10 million. This land will be used to construct dormitories for underprivileged female students who have come to Phnom Penh to pursue their studies. This initiative was revealed on Samdech’s official Facebook page on 4 June 2025.

Originally intended for the Bayon TV Station in Chroy Changvar, the land was repurposed for a noble cause after discussions with his wife and daughter. The Ministry of Women’s Affairs will oversee the development of this new dormitory, which aims to provide safe accommodation for 500 female students.

The dormitory will feature 120 rooms, each designed to comfortably house four students, complete with separate bathrooms and kitchens. To further enhance the living conditions, Samdech Techo proposed the inclusion of a health post on the ground floor of the dormitory. This facility will consist of a medical examination room and accommodation for a resident doctor, ensuring the health and well-being of the students who will reside there.

Upon completion, the dormitory will be transferred as state property, with the Ministry of Women’s Affairs responsible for its management.

In his heartfelt message, Samdech Techo expressed hope that the establishment of the dormitory will alleviate the challenges faced by female students and contribute to the development of women’s skills and their active participation in nation-building.
