Sewerage system and wastewater treatment station planned in Battambang

A sewerage system and wastewater treatment station in Battambang with a capacity of a 1,200 litres of wastewater per day is scheduled to start construction by the end of 2020 and is expected to be completed by 2022.

The Battambang Provincial Administration is preparing to build the wastewater treatment station for the development of a clean, friendly environmental city in response to the growing population and investment in the city of Battambang.

Battambang Provincial Governor H.E. Nguon Ratanak told the Construction & Property Magazine on 19 June that the sewage and the wastewater treatment station will cover three communes and 10 villages in Battambang city.

“As part of good environmental management in the city and for a clean city, the drainage system and wastewater treatment station is important for people’s living and for enhancing the city aesthetics. Through the project, we will separate between rainy water and wastewater for treatment before releasing to the river,” he said.

“It will make Battambang become the country’s third city to have a sewerage system and a wastewater treatment station after Sihanouk and Siem Reap,” said H.E. Ngoun Ratanak.

Battambang is renowned as an agriculturally productive province, but tourism in the province is significantly growing, and the government is studying the potential of reopening the abandoned Battambang airport to serve local air transportation needs.
