Siem Reap Forges Sisterhood with 30 Chinese Provinces to Boost Investment and Trade

Siem Reap, a popular tourist destination in Cambodia, has established sisterhood relationships with 30 provinces in China, with the signing of memoranda of understanding and initiatives, according to Mr. Khim Finang, Deputy Governor of Siem Reap.

Wrote on his Facebook page on March 14, the deputy governor stated that  Yunnan Province is the most unique and fruitful province in terms of social assistance and direct investment to Siem Reap.

The sisterhood with Yunnan Province has created numerous job opportunities, including the Angkor Smile Theater Project and the Siem Reap Angkor Thmey International Airport project, which are both large-scale, long-term investments that contribute to the economic growth of the province, added the Deputy Governor. During a meeting with a delegation from Yunnan Province, the Chinese officials expressed their desire to strengthen investment ties between the two provinces and even requested the Siem Reap Provincial Administration to help promote cooperation between the Taliban of Yunnan Province and the city. Siem Reap could become a sister city.

China has previously proposed making the relationship between Hubei Province, its economic pole, and Siem Reap, Kampot, and Sihanoukville into a sister province or sister city to promote trade opportunities and the development of both countries.

Siem Reap’s sisterhood with 30 Chinese provinces highlights its potential for further growth and development, attracting investors and entrepreneurs looking to expand their business and trade opportunities in Cambodia.
