InterContinental Hotels & Resorts to Open USD 300 Million Landmark in Sihanoukville, Marking Grand Return to Cambodia

InterContinental Hotels & Resorts will make its return to Cambodia with a USD 300 million luxury property in Sihanoukville, scheduled to open in 2028 as part of the expansive Peninsula Bay Integrated Resort. The announcement coincides with a notable revival in Cambodia’s tourism industry, which saw a 23% increase in international arrivals in 2024, exceeding pre-pandemic levels by 1.4%, driven by government-led strategic initiatives, according to Travelandtourworld, updated on 27 March 2025.

The 300-room InterContinental Sihanoukville will feature world-class amenities including signature dining venues, curated bars, a luxury spa, and panoramic coastal views, catering to both business and leisure travellers. Developed in partnership with Peninsula Bay Investment Co., Ltd., the project spans approximately 160,000 square metres and will integrate shopping centres, entertainment venues, and architectural elements inspired by traditional Khmer motifs, notably dragon symbolism representing strength and prosperity.

The property’s strategic location, just 30 minutes from Sihanoukville International Airport, offers direct access to key coastal attractions including Otres Beach, Ream National Park, and Wat Leu Pagoda. Bryan Chan, Vice President of Development, South East Asia & Korea at IHG, stated, “We’re proud to be returning the world’s first and largest luxury brand, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, to Cambodia… paving the way for the InterContinental brand to once again lead the way in Luxury & Lifestyle in Cambodia.”

InterContinental Sihanoukville is set to join a growing roster of luxury projects in the kingdom, including Six Senses Krabey Island and the upcoming Vignette Collection Phnom Penh Odom, expected to open in 2027. With over 220 properties globally and more than 26 hotels currently in the pipeline across Indochina, IHG is poised to play a central role in elevating Cambodia’s appeal as a luxury travel and lifestyle destination in Southeast Asia.
