Sihanoukville’s Wastewater Treatment Station Capacity to Be Expanded

The Cambodian government plans to expand the capacity of Sihanoukville’s wastewater treatment station by three times, according to a Facebook post by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) over the weekend.

“The Sihanoukville wastewater treatment station capacity is to be expanded by three times in order to facilitate environmental cleanup and better living for this tourism city”, it said.

According to the same post, the wastewater treatment station capacity is to be trebled to be able to handle 20,000 cubic metres per day.

However, in order to speed up the expansion plan, H.E Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister, Minister of Public Works and Transport, has urged relevant parties to cooperate in accelerating this study plan to be submitted to the head of government for consideration and implementation.

Meanwhile, international construction firm Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG) is currently implementing the rehabilitation of this wastewater treatment station which has decreased incapacity due to silt filling the basin.

In addition, the ministry will add additional technical equipment and comply with technical standards set out. The rehabilitation will be completed by the end of 2018.
