Singapore to Unveil Rigorous Underground Master Plan 2019

Besides its expertise in green buildings, Singapore is now starting to draw attention with its rigorous Underground Master Plan.

Responding to land limitation and the rise in population, the Singaporean government is preparing to unveil its Underground Master Plan 2019, according to Reuters.

Speaking with Reuters, Mr Ler Seng Ann, a group director of the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) said that because land is limited in Singapore,it is important that the government make better use of the surface land and take advantage of underground space for future needs. Currently the government is focusing on using underground space for infrastructure like transport, storage and industrial facilities so that there will be more space for housing, offices and other public uses.

As reported by Reuters, this master plan will feature construction of a data centre, bus terminals, a deep-tunnel sewerage system, and warehousing, as well as water reservoirs.

So far, the government of Singapore had already begun to move some of the infrastructure and utilities to underground space, such as train lines, retail, pedestrian walkways, a five-lane highway, and air-conditioning cooling pipes.
