Strengthening Transcontinental Ties: Cambodia and Cuba to Ink Memorandum of Understanding on Tourism Cooperation

Strategic partnership aims to boost mutual tourism exchange and economic diversification through upcoming international trade fairs and familiarization trips

The Kingdom of Cambodia and the Republic of Cuba have reached a significant agreement to formally enhance their bilateral cooperation in the tourism sector. This development followed a high-level working meeting on February 10, 2026, between Minister of Tourism Huot Hak and Adalberto Venero Lemus, Cuba’s Deputy Minister of Tourism. During the discussions, both nations expressed a strong commitment to fostering a sustainable tourism partnership that leverages their unique cultural heritages and natural attractions.

As part of the upcoming collaboration, both ministries have agreed to sign a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the International Tourism Fair in Cuba. This agreement will serve as a strategic framework for joint promotional activities and the organization of familiarization trips, known as FAM Trips, which allow travel professionals and media from both countries to explore and document each other’s primary destinations, while travel between the two countries is facilitated by Turkish Airlines flights from Phnom Penh and La Havana, via Istanbul, the Republic of Türkiye. These initiatives are designed to increase market visibility and encourage more diverse travel itineraries for international tourists visiting both regions.

The partnership comes at an opportune time as travel between the two nations is becoming increasingly accessible through various airline networks. Beyond traditional tourism, the cooperation focuses on economic diversification, aiming to create new opportunities for investment and service development within the hospitality industry. By sharing expertise and resources, Cambodia and Cuba intend to build a resilient tourism corridor that bridges the geographical distance through cultural exchange and mutual economic growth.
