India Commits to Boosting Cambodian Tourism and Expanding Direct Flights to Siem Reap

Honorary Consul in Bengaluru focuses on Indigo Airlines partnership to strengthen ties between Karnataka and Siem Reap

The Cambodian Honorary Consulate in Bengaluru, India, has pledged to collaborate with Cambodia to promote the Kingdom’s tourism sector and expand direct flight connections between Indian cities and Siem Reap in the near future. This commitment was reaffirmed during a meeting on February 21, 2026, between Tourism Minister Huot Hak and Mr. Karthik Tallam, Cambodia’s Honorary Consul in Bengaluru, where they discussed strengthening tourism cooperation and increasing investment between the two nations.

During the session, Mr. Tallam expressed his dedication to showcasing Cambodia’s tourism potential and investment opportunities to Indian investors and citizens, specifically targeting those residing and operating businesses in Bengaluru and surrounding jurisdictions. He highlighted the importance of enhancing the existing relationship between Siem Reap province and Karnataka state, which was formalized under a sisterhood agreement signed in September 2025.

A major objective of this partnership is to secure direct air travel options to facilitate easier movement between the two countries. Mr. Tallam stated that efforts are underway to encourage Indigo Airlines, India’s largest carrier, to establish direct flights between Siem Reap and Bengaluru. This initiative is designed to stimulate a steady growth in the number of Indian tourists visiting Cambodia, fostering deeper socio-economic connections and mutual cultural appreciation.

According to data from the Ministry of Tourism, in the first 11 months of 2025, a total of 5.17 million foreigners traveled to Cambodia, a 13.8% decrease compared to the same period in 2024. Of this number, 62,254 were Indian tourists.
