Study Complete for SHV Port Expansion Project Phase 2 & 3

The Minister of Public Works and Transport HE Sun Chanthol has given full support to the study result of Sihanoukville deep seaport expansion project Phase 2 & 3 that have just been completed by JICA.

HE Sun Chanthol provided the feedback during a meeting with Director General of Sihanoukville Autonomous Port HE Lou Kim Chhon on Monday 8 December.

According to the result, the port will be expanded to a depth of 16m and 17.5m accordingly for Phase 2 and 3, while constructions are scheduled to be completed by 2028 and 2030, respectively.

In this regard, HE Sun Chanthol suggested that the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port should consider using only one budget package, consulting firm, and architect for both phases. Meanwhile, in the construction stage, there should be two construction companies to save time and speed up the project.

According to the master plan, the expansion of the Sihanoukville deep seaport has a total of 5 phases. In the first phase, Japan will provide a loan of US$200 million to expand the port depth to 14.5m and length to 350m.

Phase 1 is now in the bidding for contractor stage after the layout design has been finally completed with the construction expected to begin in 2022. (Read more)
