Takeo Province Chosen for Digital Village Pilot Project

The Republic of India has signed an agreement with the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications selecting Traing District in Takeo province as the target location to implement a Digital Village pilot project.

The information was disclosed while the Ambassador of India to Cambodia H.E. Ms. Manika Jain paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications H.E. Tram Iv Tek in Phnom Penh on 6 August.

According to an announcement by the ministry, the project will be undertaken by the Telecommunications Consultants of India Limited (TCIL). Experts from TCIL have already visited and observed the site and decided to choose Traing District.

Digital Villages is a project developed by the Indian government to modernise and digitalise rural areas in all sectors especially for infrastructure and living facilities. The project comprise of four core concepts: Tele Medicine Services, Tele Education Services, LED Street Lighting and Wi-Fi Hotspot Services, and Skill Development Services.

According to H.E. Tram Iv Tek, the objective of this project is to promote ITC development in rural areas.

However, details such as the start date and the duration the project have yet to be disclosed.
