The 1st Section of the Boundary Posting Process Along Funan Techo Canal is Fully Completed

In a significant milestone for infrastructure development in Cambodia, the inter-ministerial technical working group has successfully completed the boundary posting process along the Funan Techo Canal. The first section, spanning 21 kilometres from Prek Takeo to Prek Po, has achieved a remarkable 100% completion rate.

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport spearheaded the effort and confirmed that 142 demarcation points had been established along the canal. This accomplishment marks an important step in the project to enhance the nation’s transportation capabilities. Notably, construction officially commenced on August 5, 2024. (Read more)

The Funan Techo Canal project is expected to deliver numerous benefits to the Cambodian populace, as outlined below:

  1. Strengthening Political Independence: Enhancing Cambodia’s autonomy in water transport.
  2. Cost and Time Efficiency: Reducing transportation costs, distance, and travel time for goods and passengers.
  3. Environmental Impact: Decreasing toxic emissions, contributing to a cleaner environment.
  4. Sustainable Ecosystem: Supporting maintaining a sustainable environment and ecosystems.
  5. Aquatic Habitat Creation: Establishing new habitats for various aquatic species, with an estimated annual fish production of 1,000 tons, benefiting over 1.6 million residents living along the Prek River.
  6. Flood and Drought Mitigation: Minimizing the adverse effects of floods and droughts in eastern and southwestern provinces.
  7. Job Creation: Providing employment opportunities for over 10,000 workers during construction, potentially creating thousands of additional jobs post-completion.
  8. Economic Growth: Projecting a high economic internal rate of return (EIRR) of 20% to 31%, exceeding the average rate of 12% established by national and international benchmarks.

The successful completion of the boundary posting process is a promising indicator for the project’s future phases as Cambodia continues to invest in its infrastructure to benefit its citizens and the environment.
