GOV’t mulls to develop Tboung Khmum as carbon-neutral province to improve quality of life

A senior official of the Ministry of Environment has revealed plans to transform Tboung Khmum into a carbon-neutral province to enhance the quality of life of its residents. During a meeting on the morning of 16 March, 2023 to review the province’s environmental progress in 2022 and its goals for 2023, HE Eang Sophalleth, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Environment, emphasized the importance of sustainable development.

In addition to promoting environmental education and waste management, the provincial authorities inspected 68 pollution sources in different factories, enterprises, companies, handicrafts, and businesses throughout the province including 14 in Suong, 19 in Tboung Khmum district, 06 in Ou Raing Ov district, 11 in Tambor district, 7 in Memot district and 7 in Ponhea Krek district. 11 locations.

Among these inspected sites, Tboung Khmum Provincial Department of Environment cooperated with the working group of the Ministry of Environment in 6 locations, including 1 location in the Tambor district, 2 locations in the Memot district, and 3 locations in the Ponhea Krek district.

The authority also collected data on the use of refrigerants, air conditioning equipment, air conditioning repair services, and car repair garages in 54 locations.

The aim of the plan is to develop Tboung Khmum as a model province that showcases Cambodia’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint. The government’s efforts to mitigate climate change align with the global goal of reducing carbon emissions and fostering sustainable living.

Through its carbon-neutral development, Tboung Khmum will serve as a case study for other provinces, encouraging them to prioritize environmental sustainability in their own communities.
