The Gov’t urge to implement to build a light rail line connecting Siem Reap to the new airport

An inter-ministerial commission with China Metro Group has been pushing for discussions on a light rail development (LRT) project connecting Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport to Siem Reap. This is according to the meeting chaired by HE Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister, First Deputy Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, and Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Commission on December 26, 2023.

The meeting was held to promote the implementation of the light rail development project connecting Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport to Siem Reap by the high recommendation of the President in response to the growth of tourists and transportation services. On the other hand, the discussion focused on the study of the road to avoid any disturbance in the Angkor area, an archeological site, or an area within the conservation area of the Apsara Authority.

According to the last meeting related to this work, the technical team has reached the stage of collecting information and data on the impact, in which the team examined two options, one is on the old road and the other Must be created on a new path. (Read more)
