Celebrating Sporting Triumphs: Cambodia Carves 2023 Outstanding Athletes at Win-Win Monument

The Cambodian Government has made a momentous decision to commemorate the achievements of exceptional athletes from the 32nd SEA Games by carving their names and accolades into the historic Victory Monument. This landmark initiative serves as a resounding testament to Cambodia’s rich sporting heritage as it gears up to host the prestigious 5th Asian Youth Olympic Games in 2029, according to a press release following the Council of Ministers’ plenary session on May 19, 2023.

The envisioned sculpture at the Victory Monument stands as a powerful symbol of Cambodia’s illustrious history, serving as an inspiration for future generations both within the country and beyond its borders. It showcases the immense pride associated with hosting a significant sporting event of this magnitude.

Furthermore, the Victory Monument will also bear the engraved names and slogans of extraordinary Cambodian athletes who have excelled at the SEA Games, their remarkable achievements having garnered high acclaim from the Sports Committee. This fitting tribute underscores their indomitable spirit and triumph on this monumental platform.

As Cambodia eagerly prepares to play host to the 5th Asian Youth Olympic Games in 2029, the nation solidifies its status as a premier sporting destination. The rights to organize this momentous event were conferred upon Cambodia during the 40th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on 21st November 2021.

The agreement, signed by HE Thong Khon on behalf of the event organizer and HE Khuong Sreng on behalf of the host city, marks a significant milestone in Cambodia’s sporting journey. Additionally, HE Ouk Sithcheat, Representative of the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports, joined hands with Mr. Randhir Shing, Acting President of the Olympic Council of Asia, further cementing Cambodia’s commitment to hosting a truly unforgettable Asian Youth Olympic Games.

To amplify the nation’s sporting achievements and foster a legacy for future generations, the Olympic Council of Asia has proposed an ambitious endeavor—the construction of a comprehensive Olympic Museum Center in Cambodia. This center will serve as a monumental repository of Cambodia’s sporting history and the remarkable achievements of its national athletes.
