The Philippines embraces the smart city concept

SmartCity in Philippine

A 9,450ha smart city is being planned for the Philippine island of Luzon, 120km north of the capital city Manila.

New Clark City will feature what Singapore-based developer SurbanaJurong describes as an “R&D-driven industrial park focusing on innovative industries” and a business centre that will house “national government agencies, an agro-industrial park and an international food market”.

New Clark City will comprise of government institutions, university campuses, solar farms, and industrial and residential buildings. Transport interconnectivity is an important aspect of the overall design with dedicated pedestrian lanes and bicycle lanes and a rail link connecting New Clark City to Manila and to Clark International Airport together with the proposed Subic-Clark Railway System.

Work on the first phase began in April 2016 and after a memorandum of understanding was signed in early 2018, the first of the four phase development cycle is due to be completed in 2021.
