Progress Reaches 65% in Conversion of Old Railway into Modern Concrete Road, Russey Keo

The ambitious project to renovate the former 4,400-metre-long railway line in Russey Keo district into a reinforced concrete road has edged closer to completion, boasting a commendable 65% progress. National Television of Cambodia shared this significant update on 31 July 2023.

This transformative initiative is set to redefine connectivity in the region, with the conversion of the old railway system into a strategic road that promises to alleviate traffic congestion in the pivotal areas of Boeung Kak, Tuol Sangke, and Chrang Chamres. Spanning from km 6 to the juncture of National Road 5 in Russey Keo district, the project is poised to unlock seamless vehicular movement, contributing to a more efficient urban landscape.

The innovation of this road transformation lies in its comprehensive design approach. Currently under construction is a cutting-edge 16.5-metre-wide concrete thoroughfare, complemented by a central garden spanning 2.5 metres in width. Remarkably, this modern marvel incorporates an intricate blend of 12 litres of steel masonry and dual layers of granite, ensuring not only durability but also aesthetic harmony with the surrounding environment.

This transformative endeavour stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts of the Phnom Penh Capital Administration, SCE, and BBE. As the project inches closer to realisation, the district anticipates a seamless blend of modernity and functionality, creating a symbol of progress that will serve as a model for urban revitalisation.
