NR No. 48 Rehabilitation Project Progresses to 52%

The rehabilitation project of National Road No. 48 (Sre Ambel – Koh Kong) has reached a significant milestone, with construction progress standing at 52.12%. This update was confirmed by HE So Vector, Project Manager and Secretary of State of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, on April 18, 2024.

HE So Vector highlighted the smooth progress of the project, emphasising that efforts are focused on enhancing the quality of National Road No. 48. The road section, spanning from the intersection of National Road No. 4 to Khemarak Phoumin city in Koh Kong province, spans a total length of 148 kilometres. Construction activities are currently bustling as crews diligently work on AC ironing, with a particular emphasis on completing the Base Course work. Structural work is slated to be finished by the upcoming dry season in 2025.

Furthermore, HE Peng Po Nea, Minister of Public Works and Transport, has set a target for the completion of 60% of the road rehabilitation work by June 2024. This underscores the government’s commitment to timely and efficient infrastructure development.

In addition to tracking progress, the minister highlighted the need for certain modifications to the original plan, including widening the road from 11 metres to 13 metres across slopes and expanding from 2 lanes to 4 lanes at PK84.

The construction project of National Road No. 48, initiated on 3 January 2017, with a budget of approximately US$78 million, plays a vital role in enhancing transportation infrastructure and connectivity in Cambodia. As the rehabilitation efforts continue, the nation anticipates significant improvements in road quality and travel efficiency, ultimately contributing to socio-economic development and prosperity.
