Feasibility Study Completed on Cambodia’s US$4bn Third Expressway Project from Phnom Penh to Banteay Meanchey

The Phnom Penh-Siem Reap-Poipet Expressway, valued at more than US$4 billion, will span 420km across six provinces, including Phnom Penh, Kandal, Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom, Siem Reap, and Banteay Meanchey. The feasibility study on this major infrastructure project, which starts at Win-Win Boulevard in Phnom Penh and ends at Poipet near the Cambodia-Thailand border, has been partially completed.

The expressway will traverse key regions: Phnom Penh (3km), Kandal (18km), Kampong Cham (43km), Kampong Thom (131km), Siem Reap (130km), and Banteay Meanchey (95km). It will feature 10 diversion lanes, seven service points, and two parking spaces. The project is divided into two phases, with the first phase covering 249km from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, estimated to cost US$2.5 billion. The second phase, from Siem Reap to Poipet, covering 151 km, is projected to cost US$1.7 billion.

The Cambodian government has authorised China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) to invest in this expressway project, leveraging their experience from constructing the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway and the ongoing Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville-Bavet expressway. The new expressway will have a four-lane concrete-paved (AC) road, allowing speeds of 100 to 120 km per hour, significantly improving transportation and regional connectivity.
