Three Communes in Veal Veng District, Pursat to be Incorporated into New City

Pursat province’s Veal Veng district is set to undergo a major transformation as three communes are being organised into a new city to accommodate the growing population. Pursat Provincial Governor HE Khoy Rida shared this news during a press conference on “Success in the Past Five Years” of the Pursat Provincial Administration on 7 March 2023.

The governor emphasised the need to develop a plan to make the new city attractive for both tourism and investment, while ensuring efficiency and accessibility between Thailand and Cambodia. The Thmorda area, which will be organised as a city, is expected to become a new international port in the future. (Read more)

The joint working group at the provincial level is currently preparing to study and draw the master plan in the priority communes of Thmor Da, Bramoy, and O’Som. Thmor Da is designated as a special economic zone with international trade relations, Pramoy is an administrative town area, and Osom is a natural tourism area.

Governor Rida stressed the importance of preparing for the future to prevent the area from becoming a chaotic city, losing its beauty. The new city will accommodate the growing population and promote economic growth and development in the region.

“If we do not have a proper plan from now, the next day, the area will become a chaotic city, losing its beauty”, explained the governor.

The reorganisation of these communes into a new city is a significant step towards creating a more sustainable and prosperous future for Pursat province as well as for Cambodian as a whole.
