Svay Rieng Province’s Strategic Border Checkpoints and Customs Revenue Surges to US$400m in 2022

Svay Rieng province’s strategic location on the Cambodian-Vietnamese border has facilitated the opening of eight border gates, including two international and two bilateral gates, as well as four regional gates. This was highlighted by HE Men Vibol, Governor of Svay Rieng Province, during a press conference on April 27, 2023, where he presented the province’s achievements in the past five years.

According to the governor, the two international border gates, Bavet and Prey Vally, and one bilateral port, Samrong, have helped the Customs Agency collect US$400 million in customs revenue in 2022 alone, representing an increase of 23% compared to the previous year.

In addition, there are two bilateral border gates: Samrong Gate and Bos Mon Gate, and there are four other regional gates, including the French Fields Gate, the Tortei Gate, the Coconut Border Gate, and the Steel Border Gate.

Furthermore, the province is divided into three economic poles, including 1). service industrial areas in Bavet, Svay Rieng city, and Chantrea district, 2). agro-industrial zones in Svay Teap, Romduol, and Romeas Hek districts, and 3). agricultural areas in Svay Chrum and Kampong Ror districts.

Svay Rieng province’s progress in enhancing its border infrastructure and diversifying its economic base has positioned it as a strategic player in Cambodia’s economic development.
