Transport Ministry to Upgrade Dong Tong River Port in Koh Kong Province

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport has unveiled a project to upgrade an existing port on the Dong Tong River in Koh Kong province to facilitate waterway transportation for fishing boats and tourism cruise ships.

To date, the port upgrade proposal has already been submitted to the Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) for funding, according to the ministry’s spokesman HE Vasim Sorya.

“The project to improve this port aims at enhancing water transport in Dong Tong River, such as those fishing boats, cargo ships and cruise ships,” HE Vasim Sorya told Construction & Property Magazine on the morning of 31 March.

However, HE Vasim Sorya has yet to disclose the estimated budget for the project but stated that some part of the construction budget may also be funded by the ministry.

Built in 1984, the port is 11 metres wide and 21 metres long but has long been broken down and currently only functions for fishing boats.
