Two Footbridges Constructions in Phnom Penh Launched

Phnom Penh City Hall started construction of two footbridges along the Mao Tse Tong Blvd to facilitate the pedestrians. Once the constructions finished, the footbridges in Phnom Penh will be 5.

The groundbreaking ceremony of the footbridge constructions was held on December 28 under the presence of H.E. Khoung Sreng, Phnom Penh Governor.

The footbridges constructions are in front of Phsar Dem Kor market and Santhormok intersection, according to the City Hall.

Built by the Space Media Limited, the constructions are scheduled to finish in middle of 2020 after next six months of groundbreaking ceremony.

H.E. Khoung Sreng said that building the footbridges is to facilitate commuters in crossing roads with safety and avoid any unexpected traffic accidents.

Phnom Penh currently has three footbridges, two are in front of Chompuvon high school, along the national road number 4 and one is at Neang Kong Hing intersection.

Saing Piseth, director of Phnom Penh’s Public Works and Transport, said in July that City Hall plans to build more footbridges which the locations are in front of schools, hospitals, and markets to enhance safety for commuters crossing roads.

Besides Phnom Penh, a footbridge located in Chbar Mon town, Kampong Speu province was put into use on Sunday, becoming the first footbridge located outside Phnom Penh.
