US$17 million Steel Recycling Plant in Kampong Speu to Open this Month

A US$17-million steel-processing plant in Oudong district of Kampong Speu province, which uses recycled steel and metal scraps to produce finished steel products, will start operation this month.

In a meeting with HE Keo Ratana, Director-general of Electricite Du Cambodge (EDC) on 27 November, Mr Lin Xiangrong, Chairman of Hong De Sheng (Cambodia) said once the plant is operational it will have the capacity to produce 500,000 tons of steel per year.

Hong De Sheng (Cambodia) Steel Co., Ltd. mainly produces various specifications of wire rod, coiled reinforced bar and screw thread steel. The company will serve the Cambodian construction market with superior quality and perfect services.

According to an earlier announcement in September this year, the firm will use the metal scraps collected from semi-finished local and imported steel products to process finished steel. (Read more)

He added there are two steel production plants using metal scraps in Cambodia.

Figures from General Department of Customs and Excises show that Cambodia imported 720,000 tons of steel with the worth of US$477 million in 2019.
