Exploring Sydney Through a New Digital Lens

Just in time for the Bentley Illuminate 2026 conference in Sydney, a new 3D virtual tour has been launched to show the city like never before. Powered by Cesium, this digital experience moves beyond the postcard-perfect images of Sydney to reveal how the city functions as a complex, interconnected system.

By using advanced 3D modeling, viewers can explore how Sydney’s iconic architecture, massive infrastructure projects, and natural coastal beauty all work together to support its growing population and global economy.

The tour highlights key locations that define the city’s identity. It features world-famous landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge, which stand as monuments to bold engineering and design.

The experience also takes users to Bondi Beach to showcase the city’s relationship with the Pacific Ocean and the ongoing challenge of climate resilience. Additionally, the tour highlights urban evolution through the transformation of old industrial waterfronts at Darling Harbour and Barangaroo into vibrant public spaces.

Beyond tourism and recreation, the digital tour also provides a look at the essential systems that keep the city running. This includes the massive scale of international trade at Port Botany, as well as the deep cultural history found in neighborhoods like Sydney’s Chinatown.

By connecting these diverse sites, the project highlights that Sydney is not just a collection of famous landmarks, but a living, breathing metropolis where infrastructure, environment, and culture constantly shape one another.
