Expressway company decides to reduce truck fee

The Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway Investment Company has decided to reduce the cost of using the road for container trucks after the private sector raised concerns over the bit-costly price of using the road.

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport and China Road and Bridge Cooperate discussed the toll fee, and the company decided to reduce the cost of the expressway to container trucks, said Mr. Heang Sotheayut, spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.

After discussing the expressway’s toll fee reduction, the company will soon announce a new fee list, Phnom Penh Post quoted Heang Sotheayut as saying on October 24.

“People who use the expressway will see the prices marked clearly on a large blue banner on the right of the entrance,” the spokesman said.

Currently, the round-trip price for a container truck is $120.

The new discount comes as the company launches a one-month temporary expressway. In three weeks, more than 200,000 vehicles crossed the first expressway in Cambodia.

The Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway is Cambodia’s first expressway. Construction of the 187-kilometer road began in June 2019 at a cost of $2 billion.
