Government Plans to Spend Over US$240 million Building Three New Airports

The government plans to spend more than US$240 million on building three new airports to serve domestic flights.

According to the report from the Secretary of State for Civil Aviation (SSCA), the three new airport projects are within the 2019-2024 aviation infrastructure investment scheme.

An estimated US$80 million is planned for the construction of the new Koh Kong airport and US$65 million is for the construction of the new Poipet airport.

For the construction of Mondulkiri airport, the government plans to spend about US$100 million. According to local news, SSCA reported that the Chinese firm that planned to invest in this airport had already withdrawn its investment due to a lack of funds.

Cambodia currently has three international airports in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville under the management of Cambodia Airports.

Three new international airports in Kandal, Siem Reap, and Koh Kong provinces are under construction.
