The government seizes over 2,000 hectares of illegally-owned land in Mondulkiri

Mondulkiri Provincial Governor H.E Svay Sam Eang said on 16 July that the Provincial Administration has thus far revoked ownership titles and seized back over 2,000 hectares of illegally-occupied land, emphasising that the law is applied equally regardless of social ranking.

“Illegal is illegal, legal is legal. The law is applied equally, whether you are small [general people] or big [high-ranking officers and wealthy individuals]. If you occupy land illegally, we must take legal action,” said H.E Sam Eang.

“According to the Council of Ministers, the government has announced and educated the public countless times that encroachment is illegal. Thus, those who are found guilty will have to face legal action, while the land will be seized to become national assets. So far, we have already seized over 2,000 hectares of land,” he added.

On the same day, Koh Kong Provincial Administration also announced that all land transactions without the approval from the relevant authorities, particularly the land located in protected and forest areas in Koh Kong province, are considered illegal and will be void. (Read more)
