Government to study a new road from Battambang to Siem Reap

Samdech Techo Hun Sen has asked relevant institutions to study the construction of a new road between Battambang and Siem Reap, shortening the distance by 69km.

The new road was proposed by Samdech Techo Hun Sen during the celebration of the 6th River Festival hosted under the theme of “River of Peace, River of Prosperity” on 14 March, 2020 in Battambang province.

“We will build a new road linking Battambang and Siem Reap, which will reduce the cost of commuting from Battambang to Banteay Meanchey and Siem Reap, and which can save up to 69 kilometres to the commuters,” Samdech Techo said.

“This is one of the 2021 project plans. When the study is completed, we will seek the budget to build this road. This road will provide benefits to Battambang province as the surrounding provinces have already connected to their next province such as Banteay Meanchey linking to Pailin, and Pursat linking to Koh Kong,” he added.

At the same time, Samdech Techo also advised relevant provincial departments and ministries to study Bek Chan Airport in Battambang so that it can be restructured to facilitate air transportation in the future.

“Although the airport is not needed at the moment, in the near future we will definitely need an airport for Battambang, so I would like to ask Samdech Krolahom Sar Kheng to keep an eye on the area and avoid high construction that may affect the flight lane,” Samdech said.
