Gov’t accelerates plan to convert SHV to multi-purpose special economic zone

The plan to upgrade Sihanoukville to a new multi-purpose special economic zone has moved another forward with the government recently enlisting the National Committee for Coastal Management and Development of Cambodia to expedite the work along with three major Ministers.

According to the official meeting on Thursday 22 July, the committee will help gather input to draft of land management policy in Sihanoukville.

To date, the team has already started collecting aerial photos of Sihanoukville to use as a reference while drafting the master plan with the inter-ministerial group.

The committee is chaired by the Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction with two Vice-Chairmen, the Minister of Public Works and Transport, and the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation.

The move was made amid the province has been working actively has been actively expanding its infrastructure system. The ongoing project includes the 34 roads, drainage system improvement project, wastewater treatment plants, among others.
