Gov’t Requests Japan to Help Establish Construction Lab, Develop Smart Cities & Prepare Spatial Data

At the Cambodia-Japan Urban Development Conference on 16 February, Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction HE Chea Sophara has requested the Japanese government to provide assistance on four major issues in Cambodia to promote the sustainable development of the construction, land management, urban planning, and housing sectors.

The first request was for help from Japan to promote the implementation of construction laws, assist in construction safety, and especially help establish a National Construction Laboratory.
Meanwhile, the minister also requested Japan to provide support on national land management planning, in particular in the smart city development project.

The minister also requested the Japanese government to continue cooperating and advising regarding the issue of law enforcement and techniques for the housing development sector.

The last request is to create a sustainable cadastral and geographical database system. To do so, HE Chea Sophara requested Japan assisting in building National Spatial Data Infrastructure.

In response, the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan HE Akaba Kazuyoshi, said the Japanese development agency will do it best to share both legal and technical experience for sustainable development in Cambodia.
