Gov’t to Restore Boeung Trabek Reservoir Infrastructure to Prevent Land Encroachment and Flood

The Cambodian government has designated over 14 hectares of Boeung Trabek reservoir as state land and will construct a wall and undertake a complete dredging to prevent future flooding and land encroachment, according to Sub Decree issued on 30 December 2020 and a letter issued 24 December 2020.

The wall will be built as a concrete pile surrounding the reservoir to stop further state land encroachment, which has been the case for some time.

Meanwhile, the state will dredge the upper part of the reservoir, so that the pumping stations can dump in more water, which later flows to the southern part of Phnom Penh.

The infrastructure restoration will help increase the reservoir’s capacity for more rainwater, which will help prevent flooding in the city in the next rainy season.
