Ground Broken on New US$60m Ministry of Interior Headquarters Building

The ground breaking ceremony for the new US$60-million Ministry of Interior headquarters building was officially held on Thursday 11 November in the presence of Minister of Interior Samdech Sar Kheng.

The new office is located in the 5.6 hectares of the original ministry complex located along Norodom Blvd in Sangkat Tonle Bassac.

With a total net area of 105,545sqm, the building is 153 metres by 83 metres, consisting of 9 floors or equal to 43.5 metres, excluding the ground floor and parking that can accommodate 330 cars.

The architectural layout is a classic Khmer style with five towers just like the Angkor Wat. The building is also designed for adequate light and natural air ventilation.

The new ministry office can accommodate up to 8,500 people and will consist of 12 ministry leaders offices & general departments, 5 national committees, 6 ministry committees, and 42 National Committee for Sub-National Democratic Development Secretariat and specialised departments.

The construction project is being implemented by Kim Mex Construction & Investment Co., Ltd, with a completion schedule set for August 2023.
