Cambodia Sees 59% Surge in Iron and Steel Imports, Totalling Over USD 404m in 2024

Cambodia’s iron and steel imports soared by 59.2% in the first eight months of 2024, with the country importing more than USD 404 million worth of these materials, a substantial increase from just over USD 254 million during the same period in 2023.

The General Department of Customs reported these figures and Excise on 10 September 2024.

Iron and steel imports reached USD 51 million in August alone, a notable 35.1% rise compared to the same month last year. These imports accounted for approximately 2.1% of Cambodia’s total imports during the first eight months of 2024, reflecting the country’s growing demand for construction materials as infrastructure development continues rapidly.

The steady rise in iron and steel imports indicates Cambodia’s expanding construction sector, which remains one of the key drivers of economic growth.
