Irrigation and Water Rehabilitation Project in Southwest Phnom Penh Reaches 32% Completion

Significant progress has been made on the Irrigation and Water Rehabilitation Project in the southwest region of Phnom Penh, with 32% of construction work completed. This update follows a site inspection conducted by HE Pich Veasna, Undersecretary of State and Project Director, on behalf of HE Thor Chetha, the Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology.

During the inspection, HE Pich Veasna called on project consultants and construction firms to accelerate their efforts, particularly during the dry season, to adhere to the construction deadlines outlined in the project contract.

He took a moment to thank local authorities, districts, communes, and farmers for their cooperation in suspending dryland rice cultivation to facilitate the renovation and reconstruction phases of the project.

Funded through concessional loans from the Royal Government of Japan, this initiative aims to repair and build two significant irrigation systems. Once complete, the Rolaing Chrey irrigation system will dramatically enhance agricultural productivity, enabling rice cultivation twice a year across approximately 16,910 hectares of rice fields and around 1,500 hectares devoted to dryland rice.
