Japan Invests Over USD 260,000 in Cambodia’s Svay Rieng and Kampong Speu Provinces

In a significant boost for local development, Japan has announced a grant of USD 267,384 for two impactful projects in Cambodia’s Svay Rieng and Kampong Speu provinces. This funding is made possible through the Kusanagi Grant Agreement for Small-Scale Human Security Projects, signed on October 3, 2025.

The first initiative, backed by USD 126,710, will be executed by the Kampong Speu Provincial Department of Water Resources and Meteorology. This project aims to rehabilitate the region’s irrigation system, a vital upgrade intended to enhance agricultural productivity. By ensuring a reliable water supply, the project is expected to benefit over 4,000 residents and improve their living standards while also boosting farmers’ incomes.

The second project, with a budget of USD 140,674, will be undertaken by the Svay Rieng Provincial Department of Rural Development. This initiative involves constructing a new concrete bridge to replace a deteriorating wooden structure. The new bridge will not only facilitate the transportation of local agricultural products but will also provide safe access to essential services such as schools, markets, and health centers for approximately 5,000 community members.

Since 1991, Japan has been a steadfast partner to Cambodia, providing grant aid to support local authorities and NGOs. With over 700 projects implemented across the nation, this continued support underscores Japan’s commitment to enhancing the lives of Cambodian citizens and fostering sustainable development.
