Kampong Thom and Phnom Penh Join Forces for Economic Development

Kampong Thom Province, known for its rich agricultural base, is poised for further economic growth following a significant memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the provincial administration and the Phnom Penh Administration on August 15, 2025. The agreement aims to foster a bond of friendship and cooperation that will enhance development across various sectors.

H.E. Nuon Pharath, Governor of Kampong Thom Province, emphasized the province’s vast potential, which is approximately 20 times the size of Phnom Penh and home to around 900,000 residents. He highlighted the province’s extensive agricultural land, which includes 150,000 hectares dedicated to cashew crops, 50,000 hectares for rice cultivation, and additional space for rubber production. The MOU is expected to create an environment conducive to attracting more investments into the province, thereby boosting its economy.

Governor Khuong Sreng of Phnom Penh expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, noting that Kampong Thom is the second province, after Preah Vihear, to sign such an agreement. The proximity of Kampong Thom to the capital city, combined with its agricultural strengths, presents a unique opportunity for economic synergy.

The partnership aims to cultivate development across a variety of sectors, including trade, tourism, education, sports, public transportation, environmental protection, urban planning, and smart city initiatives. By harnessing the strengths of both Kampong Thom and Phnom Penh, the agreement is set to pave the way for a brighter future, contributing to the overall prosperity of the region.

As the two administrations work together, they are committed to ensuring that the fruits of this cooperation will benefit both provinces, enhancing the quality of life for residents and creating a thriving economic landscape in Kampong Thom Province.
