Kampot Multi-Purpose Port Phase 1 Inaugurated with US$140m Investment

The first phase of the Kampot Multi-Purpose Port Development Project, valued at approximately US$140 million and covering a total area of 207 hectares, has been officially inaugurated. The ceremony, held on 6 June 2024, was presided over by PM Samdech Hun Manet.

The initial phase of the Kampot Multi-Purpose Port includes the construction of significant infrastructure:

  1. A wharf measuring 450 metres in length and 60 metres in width.
  2. A container yard spanning 55,000 square metres.
  3. A warehouse covering a total area of 8,800 square metres.
  4. A 1,330-square-metre cargo inspection building.
  5. An entrance and exit with a guard post surrounded by a fence.
  6. Two generators and a three-story administrative building with a total area of 1,689 square metres.

Future phases will feature a water depth of up to 13 metres, allowing 20,000-tonne vessels to operate safely and including a passenger port. PM Hun Manet highlighted the port’s significance as a vital artery for Cambodia’s maritime transport, contributing to the country’s economic growth.

The new port will serve as one of Cambodia’s deep-sea ports, complementing the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port and the Phnom Penh Autonomous Port. It will enable direct shipping from Kampot to Asia-Pacific countries without the need for intermediate stops, except for shipments to the United States and Europe, which require transfers at larger ports.

In 2022, GlobalData ranked Kampot Multi-Purpose Port as the largest port project globally. (Read more)
