Kandal Province to Benefit from New Weather Radar System

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology is set to enhance weather forecasting capabilities in Kandal province with the installation of a new radar system in the Phnom Prasit area of Ponhea Leu district. This initiative, aimed at providing quicker and more accurate weather forecasts, was announced during a project inspection led by HE Chan Sinat, Secretary of State of the Ministry, on 11 May 2025.

This new radar system, known as the Techo Sen 2 radar, will serve as the second of its kind in the region. The project is being financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) through a cooperative effort with the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

In his remarks, HE Chan Sinat emphasised the importance of the new radar in delivering real-time data for weather and climate forecasting. This advancement is particularly crucial for effective water resource management and will support various sectors affected by climate change.

Furthermore, the ADB has committed to financing the installation of the Techo Sen 2 Doppler Radar at Techo International Airport in Takhmao, reflecting its ongoing support for improving meteorological infrastructure in the region. (Read more)

In addition to this project, the Ministry of Water Resources is also working on two other ADB-funded initiatives aimed at modernising water management and meteorological services, which align with the commitment to adapt to and mitigate the impacts of climate change.
