LEDs to enlighten Kampot Smart City

The Kampot provincial administration has unveiled plans to equip Kampot city with LED street lights as part of the future smart city development.

The LED light project was raised in a meeting on 10 June chaired by H.E. Chev Tay, Kampot Governor and the representative of Minebea (Cambodia) a Japanese light technology company producing in Cambodia.

According to the Kampot provincial administration, H.E. Chev Tay said that the domestically-produced LED lights by the Japanese firm are advanced technology lights, with power-saving, and with multiple functions that could respond to the needs of the province’s development projects.

“The provincial administration will contact the firm for the development of Kampot province to become the smart city in the future,” the governor assured the company’s representative.

Mr PhouLik, deputy governor of Kampot, told Construction & Property Magazine on 11 June that a decision to finally select the LED lights for the project and the timeframe for the project have not yet been made.

“We have started the project because we have seen smart cities in other countries equipped with advanced technology lights. Therefore, the provincial administration has initiated the project on equipping LED lights as part of our Smart City development to be one of the attractive cities,” Mr PhouLik said.

The LED lights will be equipped at public places to serve the public with the project being implemented stage by stage.

This LED smart city plan has been revealed following Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen’s recent announcement of his ambitious plan to equip all the nation’s roads with LEDs during his inspection visit on the construction of 34 roads in Sihanoukville.
