Loo Pram Water Drainage Pumping Station Breaks Ground

Phnom Penh City Governor Khuong Sreng this morning presided over the official ground breaking ceremony of the construction of the Loo Pram water drainage pumping station in Mean Chey District, to help solve the flooding in the area during the rainy season.

Located in Danak Thom 2 village, Mean Chey 3 sub-district, this upcoming station will help relieve flooding across approximately 1,028 hectares of land attacked by rainfall every year at the south and east sides of Phnom Penh International Airport. The annual flooding is a cause of significant difficulty for locals living in the area during the monsoon.

The new station will be capable of draining 8 cubic metres of water per second or about 28,800 cubic metres per hour, which is enough to cope with the amount of average rainfall each year.

The project is being built using USD200,000 from the Phnom Penh City Municipality budget and is expected to be completed in the next five to six months, in time for the arrival of the rains.
